  • Free schools

  • Academy special schools

  • Sixth form colleges

What is CIF?

CIF is the annual bidding round offered by the ESFA for eligible academies, sixth-form colleges and non-diocesan VA schools to apply for capital funding. This includes funding projects to address health and safety issues, building compliance and poor building condition. CIF grants are available for poor condition and life expired works to school buildings.

For example you might want to apply for funding for:

  • Site security and safeguarding

  • Structural repairs and alterations

  • Fire and gas safety

  • Ventilation and air quality

  • Sports facilities

  • New or extended classrooms

  • Boiler replacement and heating

  • Roof and window replacement

  • Asbestos removal

  • Drainage and water services

  • Mechanical and electrical systems

  • Expansion projects for high performing schools

Each school is allowed to bid for two eligible projects of up to £4M per project.
